How to Get Started Working With Venus

Venus is that bright star we see in the sky; she governs beauty, desire, self-worth, and the art of attraction. Why would you want to work with Venus? The goal is to align with her virtues and allow her energy to flow through your life in creativity, confidence, and personal magnetism.

If you have found your way here and are reading this, Venus is calling you to explore what it means to work with her as a planet, a celestial force, and an archetypal presence. Then learn practical ways to integrate her influence into your daily practice.

Before we get started, look at where Venus appears in your chart, her sign, house, and aspects reveal how her energy expresses in your life, from love and desire to beauty and self-worth. Understanding this personal placement is the first step in working consciously with her influence.

Venus is way more than just a Planet

Venus governs love, desire, beauty, harmony, and attraction, BUT her influence is also deeply personal.

She works in cycles, rhythms, and dignities, meaning when you observe her planetary movement, you can amplify her energies in ritual or meditation. Don’t worry, once you learn the basics and discover how it works uniquely for you, it will start to make a lot more sense.

In occult and esoteric practice, Venus can be invoked through planetary magick, Renaissance and medieval grimoire methods, and modern embodiment practices, like Glamour Magick.

After knowing about your natal Venus begin to take note of when Venus is visible in the night sky. Is she in her morning or evening star cycle? Reflect on the qualities you feel naturally drawn to during these times.

Connecting With Her Virtues

Here’s where Venus becomes a lived expression. Remember to pay attention to how these qualities align with your natal Venus placement.

Love and compassion: Begin with self-love. Why start here? Because how you relate to yourself reflects how you attract and treat others. When I’m feeling off, especially in how I express the virtues of Venus, I check in with a bit of self-love, something that soothes my soul.

Beauty and aesthetics: Pay attention to your environment, your appearance, and the energies you carry. Venus thrives in harmony and refinement. Now, I don’t mean put on something red-carpet ready. I mean, how do you feel in the clothes you already have on? Is your hair brushed? Are you wearing a scent that awakens your senses? Whatever it is, choose what makes YOU feel alive with the virtues of Venus.

Charm and magnetism: Practicing presence, kindness, and authenticity opens the doors to her influence. This can be challenging at times, especially when dealing with difficult situations. But the more you cultivate this awareness, the more it becomes a natural, flowing state of being.

Desire and pleasure: Above all else……allow yourself to enjoy what makes life pleasurable WITHOUT guilt or restriction.

Here’s an exercise I find to be helpful:

Create a Venus journal. Track moments when you feel aligned with her virtues, times of joy, inspiration, or natural magnetism and reflect on the patterns. Often, we don’t notice when our emotions are heightened, sensitive, or even erotic. When the dots connect, it can be a truly illuminating moment. I’ve even found myself blurting out loud, ‘Oh, now I see!’ lol

Ritual and Practice

Meditation: Focus on her qualities. Visualize Venus’s light surrounding you, infusing you with love, charm, and confidence. This can take three minutes or twenty, it all depends on your lifestyle. The important thing is to start, and it can even be done while making your morning coffee or tea, or brushing your teeth…… you get the picture.

Offerings: Traditionally, offerings of roses, honey, or fragrant oils are used to honor Venus. Simple acts like lighting a pink or green candle in her honor can attune your energy. This doesn’t have to be daily, it can be a weekly practice, such as on Fridays. Venus correspondences can also vary depending on your personal connection. I’ve even added my own personal fetishes to her altar as offerings, simply because it felt right.

Planetary timing: Work with Venus on her days (Friday) or during Venus hours to align your actions with her energy. Simply sit within her hour of the day, speak affirmations that manifest venusian virtues

Grimoire and planetary magick: Advanced practitioners can use sigils, talismans, and planetary invocations to invoke Venus’s influence. This is something I now do to call in venusian virtues.

Tip: Consistency matters. Even small daily acts, like a brief meditation or a journal entry, can deepen your relationship with her.

Reminder:

Working with Venus is a gradual process. Her influence grows over time through awareness and regular practice. Start small, observe her influence in your life, and cultivate her virtues daily. The more you engage with her energy, the more naturally her qualities begin to show up in your life.

The beautiful is that which we desire without wishing to possess it.
