Conjuring the Virtues of Venus

I want to show you how I work with Venus’s influences in a way, by pulling from her celestial sphere. Why? Because this practice has profoundly accelerated my evolution.

Venus radiates from the cosmic heavens. That’s where I meet her and call in her celestial intelligence. You pull her frequency down through measured practice, correct timing, and partnership with her intelligence. From the cosmos → planet → human, this is planetary conjuration.

And as I am a Venusian soul, I do it like a magician conducting a symphony.

I’ve spent years studying astrology and all its layers with a few teachers, and that discipline became the structural backbone of how I approach planetary influences in my magick. Astrology reveals their temperament, their dignities, their cycles, and their impact on the subtle body.

For me, the turning point was Venus, O sweet Venus, Mother of Loves. Understanding her placement, her rulership, and her place in my chart pushed me to go beyond symbolic interpretation and pursue direct, operative contact with the planetary lord (well I like to call her my planetary Lady of my chart) who governs so much of my nature. This is why I am here today sharing this with you.

Recently in that pursuit, I encountered the work of Rufus Opus, particularly his book Seven Spheres. I recommend his material, including the course work that inspired me, it presented the underlying technology of calling down celestial forces into embodied form. It helped me dive a bit deeper and go beyond what many reduce to “love-goddess aesthetics,” uncovering mechanisms by which planetary power can be conjured, directed, and integrated.

It’s important to note that my relationship with Venus is an ongoing initiation. As the lady of my chart, Taurus Rising and Libra Sun, she shapes me profoundly, yet she also sits in detriment. So yes, I’ve had to learn Venus the hard way. This tension is precisely what shaped my deeper pursuit of her mysteries.

Once you grasp how to work with planetary virtues, the entire landscape of Venusian work transforms. In fact there is no true Venusian work without this gnosis.

Now…The Process!

First, a disclaimer: The method I share for conjuring Venus’s virtues reflects my personal practice, informed by medieval and renaissance grimoire traditions and shaped by modern planetary magick perspectives. This is my lived approach, not a universal prescription. For those who want to explore the broader historical and esoteric influences behind this work, I’ve included several resource texts at the end of this post, just for starters.

Ok, so the Items I used:

  • 2 Candles: Green for Venus & White for Hagiel

  • Green Pen/Marker

  • 2 Pieces of Paper to draw the Seal of Venus & Seal of Hagiel

  • Copper: plate (can purchased on Amazon or Etsy)

  • Rose Quartz

  • Roses

Note: in cases where drawing the seals are difficult, I would use a printed version of the seals and either print with the corresponding color or trace the outline of the print in the corresponding color.

The Prep & Timing

This work is done on the planetary day and hour of Venus, when Her influence are naturally elevated and most responsive. So, before beginning, I prepare a simple (sometimes not so simple, when I’m feeling fancy) Venus altar. I lay out the foundational correspondences so the space is already attuned before any conjuration begins. A copper plate or piece of copper. I then add offerings such as roses, honey, wine, or a Venus-ruled stone. I place the incense at the center, usually frankincense, sometimes blended with jasmine or rose, to create an aromatic field that responds well to planetary descent. Through my ongoing work with Venus, certain fetishes and aromas have joined my personal list of correspondences, like the incense Bukhoor, which She seems to favor.

At this stage, nothing is lit and no seals are drawn; the altar is simply prepared to receive.

Open the Channel

Note: Now is when I light the incense and suffumigate the space to prepare the field for contact.

Stand or sit, form an attentive, receptive posture. When I sit, I place my body the way a musician holds their instrument: tuned, steady, and open. I sit with my spine long, aligned enough that the breath can move freely. My shoulders soften down, my chest widens slightly, and my hands rest open on my thighs.

The point is to make your body a receiver, not a barricade. When your posture is intentional, your energy field shifts from “broadcasting noise” to “picking up a signal.” Magicians worked this way for a reason: your physical stance communicates to the celestial sphere that you’re ready to listen.

Visualize the celestial sphere as a living dome in the heavens; feel the planetary point above you, as if you are close to the cosmos. This stage is to prepare for calling down the virtues.

To receive a planetary influence, the practitioner must align microcosm (the human) with macrocosm (the sphere). Renaissance magicians practiced directed attunement, bodily posture and timing to put themselves on the same harmonic as the planet. It’s the embodied translation of “as above, so below.”

Before calling the influence, it helps to understand who you’re speaking to.

Hagiel, the Intelligence of Venus, is the harmonizing principle of the Venusian current. In classical planetary magic, an intelligence refines the planet’s raw force, clarifying its quality so the magician receives it in its most elevated, coherent form. Hagiel mediates Venus’s aesthetic, relational, and magnetic virtues, shaping them into a balanced influence suitable for ritual work.

The Conjuration of Intent

Note: Now is when I draw the seal of Venus and seal of Hagiel before I speak the conjuration of intent.

Ok, after the seals are drawn, this is the part where you are calling in the influences. In your conjuration and statement of intent, verbally and mentally call Venus and Hagiel (Intelligence of Venus) to harmonize and clarify the influence. Use a simple invocation: names, expressed significations, purpose.

Here’s the part I truly adore….The call is vocalized as an Orphic hymn style invocation. While you can use the hymns of Orpheus, the Orphic hymn to Venus, I love to impart some of my own personal vibes in the words sung, chanted, or spoken. And I feel rhythm matters. Use this short form example below or adapt it to your language and cadence.

I do not whisper like I’m reading a grocery list. I chant, or sing lightly, or speak in a steady vibrating rhythm that feels like it’s pulling the cosmos closer with every syllable and/or I feel chills throughout my body.

The sound is the bridge. When you give your voice a cadence, even just a simple slow beat, your whole energy field locks into the flow of the celestial influence. Vibration shapes reception. So the spoken conjuration isn’t for theatrics, although us Venusian beings love it. It’s the moment your voice becomes a tuning fork, aligning your body, the intelligences, and Venus’s lumen into the same wavelength.

In Agrippa’s works, the Picatrix, and later Renaissance grimoire practice, planets possess intelligences and spirits, different functions: intelligences refine and align spiritual purpose; spirits enact force in the world. The magician asks intelligences to mediate the heavenly light to direct it for human reception. This is the classical intermediary model: intelligences harmonize the virtue, spirits deliver force.

Sample Orphic-Hymn style incantation:

(Light the candle for Venus)

“Hail, Venus, luminous morning and night,

Heavenly and laughter-loving archetype;
From whom the currents of sweet necessity flow,
Weaver of harmony, Source of persuasion,

creative force and delights,
Come, Cyprus-born, O power divine.

(Light the candle for Hagiel)

O Hagiel, Intelligence of Venus, of the luminous essence;

Let Venus shine through crown, to the souls of my feet,

Flowing bright through all I touch,
Through all I engage,
Directing, binding, and anointing.
From sky to crown, descend your ray.
Anoint with your harmonic light.
Come all beautiful, to the words I raise,

I call thee, with devotion and praise.”

Sound and tone were considered in this practice, part of the causal chain. Ficino emphasized music and rhythm as vehicles for planetary influence; spoken, attuned words act as vibrational keys that open the circuit.

“Why do we think love is a magician? Because the whole power of magic consists in love. The work of magic is the attraction of one thing by another because of a certain affinity of nature.”
— Marsilio Ficino

The Orphic-style hymn functions as both address (to intelligences and the planet) and tuning fork (to align your inner frequency to the current).

Practical tip: Keep the hymn short, melodic, and repeat 3, 7, or 9 times depending on your tradition. Record your voice while practicing; you’ll notice tonal differences that matter.

Now that the words have been spoken, Draw Down the Virtues

When I draw Venus’s virtues down I sit grounded and relaxed, then look upward with my inner sight. I picture the celestial dome the way the old magicians described it, a vast, curved sphere above me, layered with cosmic light and slow-moving currents. Venus shows up on that dome as a single bright point on a great arc.

Once I lock onto her point, the stream begins to form, a shimmering strand of copper, or sometimes emerald light gathering itself like a glowing filament. I let it descend. The field above my crown shifts first as if it’s opening up to receive, then the luminous stream drops straight into me. It plugs in. Sometimes warm, sometimes electric, always an unmistakable feeling. My subtle body gently vibrates the moment it connects.

Practical tip: Inhale as the stream approaches, exhale as it settles into the focal point within. That focal point can also be a symbol, a sigil, or even an item you’re charging. Keep your awareness on the sensations as it anchors.

The Vision of Light Opening Before Hermes

“When I had said this, he changed in appearance, and suddenly, all things were opened to me in one swoop – and I see a sight without end, all things turned into light, sweet and delightful – and as I beheld it, I became enamored.”

The Hermetic model uses imagery of “lumen” or spiritual light descending; medieval astrologers described images as the mediators of planetary action. Aligning energetic channels so that celestial virtue migrates into the human form. It's an operant alignment calibrated by intention and correspondences.

Anchor the Current

When the lumen finally drops into your field, I like to anchor it, giving Venus’s energy something physical or habitual to live in. Here’s how I’ve done it:

Drawing Down into an object (my go-to when I want long-term results):

I use copper because, yes, the Renaissance magicians were right, it holds Venus’s charge beautifully. Sometimes it’s a small copper disk or plate, sometimes jewelry, sometimes a charm. I hold the object in the palms of my hands and let the virtue “pour” into it until I feel a shift. That’s the moment the object becomes a container, no longer just an accessory.

I speak something simple and direct, like: “Anchor and Hold this virtue.” It doesn’t need to be fancy; it needs to be felt.

Sealing it into my biofield (when I want to embody the energy immediately):

This one is what I always did in the beginning and sometimes now when I just want to embody Venus’s virtue. Towards the end of the conjuration, I take my hand and touch the center of my chest, then trace a simple Venus astrological symbol, not because the symbol is magick on its own, but because it helps lock in the influences.

I can feel it spread through my field like soft electrical currents. This is the method I use when I need magnetism, Venusian resonance, or social magick ready to go.

Anchoring it into something I’m creating (my favorite for artistry or business):

Sometimes I direct the lumen to flow straight into a piece of writing, an art project, a business (represented by its logo), or even a ritual. Venus loves being embedded in creation. When I’m channeling her frequency, my creative work feels different, bolder, more magnetic. This was something I incorporated into my magical practice, inspired by Rufus Orpus teaching on Advanced Materialization Magic.

Let Venus Work Through You

Now that the virtues of Venus have been conjured and called down, it's time to operate in the world with the new current. Speak, create, relate, set boundaries, charge work. Notice how your choices carry the newly tuned frequency.

The aim is integration: the planetary virtue once anchored expresses outwardly through the microcosm. The soul’s harmonization with a planetary essence will alter fate, presence, and relations. Magick here is a transformation of the practitioner’s effective nature.

Practical tip: Keep a journal. Track behavioral shifts, external responses, and any dreams or synchronous events. Adjust correspondences and conjurations as needed.

Integrating it into daily practice

Within my daily practices to hold the virtue of Venus: I anoint myself with rose, jasmine, egyptian geranium, frankincense oil (or some of my own mixtures), setting a specific intention for the day, wearing a copper ring, lighting a Venus candle every Friday, or suffumigating myself with frankincense or bukhoor incense (my favorites) to keep my field open and receptive.

Each repetition strengthens the channel, like going to the gym but for celestial energy.

Walking this journey with Venus in my daily practice is the difference between a moment of Venusian bliss and sustained operative power.

Your energy will feel different, and the world around you will respond.

Do you work with your planetary rulership in your magick?
